Hello, I'm Geetanjali!

I love reading, writing, and eating — not necessarily in that order! I’m a proud Bangalorean, so I tend to gush about the weather. I haunt the internet looking for interesting things to read related to brands, marketing, food, travel, feminism, technology, cats, Apple, business, writing and books. As an independent Brand, Content and Digital Marketing Consultant, I work with emerging Indian brands to identify their target audience, design & execute appropriate content-driven strategies to engage their stakeholders & improve overall customer experience. Lunch at @naaticafe in Koramangala. What can I say Lunch at @naaticafe in Koramangala. What can I say - the hype is 💯 real.

This brand new place serves local Karnataka-style cuisine as well as local fare from other southern states. We tried the mutton palav & chilli chicken - both served piping hot & incredibly fresh.

Fully in awe of the chilli chicken - the colouring was spectacular and the consistency was spot on. I’m not a fan of thin chilli chicken gravy so this was nice and substantial. The chicken was cooked beautifully. Spicy AF, but the pungency did not render your taste buds temporarily useless which can often be annoying in the middle of a great meal.

The mutton palav. Oh my. Seeraga samba rice was cooked just the way I like it - slightly on the mushy side. Really flavourful - the masala had seeped nicely into the grains and there was this gentle, faint hum of spice at the back of your mouth with every mouthful, but didn’t overpower or dominate. Almost as if the dish knew it was the star of show without having to blow its own trumpet! Decent number of tender mutton pieces, although one or two were a little bit of a letdown (but that happens sometimes). The gravy that came with the biryani was very unique - it had that slightly smoky taste to it.

Naati Cafe may be a small restaurant, but the quality of food and service indicates it has a big heart. Was very pleased with the quantity & quality of food, and the fact that they serve everything on disposable banana leaves and of course in ‘Donne’ containers (usually made out of dry banana or other leaves) 🌱

Would absolutely go back (or order in - I believe you can send Dunzo/Swiggy Genie) for more.

Dinner at @taiki.india in Indiranagar. I’d seen Dinner at @taiki.india in Indiranagar. I’d seen a post on one of the #foodie groups on Facebook, and perked up at the mention of #ramen - Taiki’s extensive menu offers Japanese, Korean & Thai food.

For starters, we each picked something that caught our fancy. I love sweet and savoury, so I chose the Lychee Wontons (Pic 4) while @geethvaz picked the Korean Fried Chicken (he’s not a huge fan of sweet stuff, so we chose the version without the sauce - see Pic 3). For mains, I chose the Chicken Teriyaki Donburi while he chose the Chicken Korean Ramen.

My biggest disappointment was the the fact that there is no pork on this menu, so my craving for ramen kind of disappeared once I figured I wouldn’t be getting any chashu. This is my bad - I should have looked more closely at the menu before making the decision to visit. But I’m glad we did, because the food was quite delicious. I really enjoyed my Lychee Wontons - everything was super fresh, and I loved that hit of coriander in each mouthful. The Korean Fried Chicken was quite appetising too. Interestingly, it had a nice smooth coating of batter, as opposed to what we’ve experienced before which is slightly more crunchy. This is best served really hot and fresh off the stove, so it’s a good option for dine-in but perhaps not for takeaway.

For the mains, I think the Chicken Korean Ramen was a hit out of the two. The broth had come together pretty nicely, and the dish really stood up to its promise - spice levels were 🔥🌶 The Chicken Teriyaki Donburi was more than sufficient (lots of veggies like yellow zucchini, green zucchini and carrots), but I kind of got tired of the sweetness halfway through so perhaps I should have picked something else after the sweet lychee starter.

The service was good - all servers wore masks & hairnets throughout, and checked on us often. The food came quickly, and was well presented. I’d like to go back to try more dishes - their menu definitely looks interesting and has more than enough choice. I do hope they consider adding pork, though! On the drinks front, they have a wine & sake list.

(The place was empty when we got there - intentionally went early and on a weekday)

Sundaze. Taking a moment to appreciate a mug of g Sundaze.

Taking a moment to appreciate a mug of good old South Indian filter coffee (thanks @geethvaz), cringe tv shows and my bed.

Sometimes it feels like my head is bursting with more than I can keep up with, and days like this one help me tune out the noise. Turning 30 has been a revelation for me in ways I wasn’t even looking to discover - I’ve pushed myself to do new things, jumped into the deep end more than once and it’s all exhilarating. Would things be the same if this milestone had come about during a “normal” year? I don’t know. But the word of the year for me is vulnerability - in relationships, in my work, in the way people around me have responded to a world in crisis.

I love where I am in this moment, but I also live with the fear this can all go away (hello, imposter syndrome). The fear of failure is very real - but I can’t control how things turn out no matter how perfect I want them to be. I can control how I enjoy these moments, though, and so that’s what I choose.

And so yes - I choose to binge watch #fabulouslivesofbollywoodwives & begin #southerncharm. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do!

Flaky empanadas from @lunapatisserie.blr The nam Flaky empanadas from @lunapatisserie.blr

The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar which when translated means “to coat or cover in breadcrumbs”. I’ve read that the dish finds its origins in Spain and Portugal, and is inspired by the Arabic version of meat pies called sambousek or samboosa (ding ding, sound familiar?). Empanadas were introduced to Latin America and the Philippines by Spanish colonists.

These Filipino-style empanadas from Luna Patisserie are stuffed with a filling made of carrots, mushrooms, leek and chicken. I munched on them while sipping a cup of coffee, and it was a great merienda - the Spanish word for a late afternoon snack (I love that there’s a word for that - how cute!).

I absolutely love pies, and this was like chomping into a tiny buttery savoury version. Truth be told, my brain was slightly confused because I’m actually used to eating a sweet version (in the exact same shape) during Diwali time called karchikai, filled with a coconut-jaggery mixture, but we got over it pretty quick after that first delicious bite!

I paid ₹400 for a box of 6 (they have options for 4 & 10 too) and got them picked up by @swiggyindia Genie. Luna Patisserie is taking orders again for this Wednesday, Dec 2nd so DM them quick!
